SERVICES for FACULTY/TAs_Mid-Quarter Feedback

Services limited to EMAT (Fall 2008 only)

Mid-quarter feedback can provide an instructor with valuable information about students' experiences in and perceptions of the course, allowing mid-quarter adjustments where called for. The best time to request feedback is during weeks 3, 4, and 5 of the quarter.

All options are free, voluntary, and confidential. Departments may not request these options for faculty or TAs. Faculty and TAs must contact us directly.

For pointers on using mid-quarter feedback effectively, visit our feedback tips page.

Feedback Options

  • Electronic Mid-Quarter Analysis of Teaching (EMAT)—Our most popular and most adaptable option allows you to create customized surveys from our website, which we then mail to you in hard copy format. Visit our EMAT information page to find out more about this option.

If you are familiar with the EMAT process, you may order it now.

  • Class Interviews—At the faculty or TA's invitation, a facilitator from CTE will visit a class in progress and interview students about their experiences in the course. Please visit our class interview page to find out more about this option.
  • Survey Forms—Seven different forms, developed for faculty and TAs. To download a survey form, please visit our survey form page.

(If you want to customize your survey, use the EMAT.)

  • Teaching Observation—A CTE staff member will attend your class and make notes on all aspects of the student/instructor interaction. The focus is on instructional behaviors which will be recorded objectively. Confidential discussion is provided afterwards. Please visit our teaching observation page to find our more about this service.
