Bain and his colleagues studied 63 college teachers known for fostering impressive learning in their students, and Bain has distilled from their practice a series of lessons, in chapters such as “What Do They Know About How We Learn?” and “What Do They Expect of Their Students?” Generalizes, rather than showing individualized pictures of good teaching, but the lessons drawn are important ones, and should provide a solid guidance for college teachers in any field.
