Growing out of the writing across the curriculum movement, this book provides both theory and practical ideas for engaging students in critical thinking. The majority of the book concerns writingÑfrom exploratory writing, to thesis-governed formal writing, to essay exams. But there are also chapters covering other active learning strategies, including group work, discussion, and encouraging good reading skills. Includes very practical suggestions for making each technique work, and for reducing the paper load. Highly recommended.
