Computer Labs - Accessibility

Instructional Computing provides adaptive technology resources so that students with disabilities can use the labs effectively. General adaptive technology is available in all IC labs. Some adaptations include the ability to display large text on workstations, Dvorak keyboard layouts, wheelchair accessible workstation tables, and tall stand-up tables for those who have difficulty sitting. For a list of software and options for peripherals, see Software.

There are adaptive technologies that rely on speech input in a quiet room apart from the hustle and bustle in the regular labs. Instructional Computing and the Disability Resource Center jointly sponsor the Adaptive Technology Room (ATR) in a small quiet room inside the Cowell Apartments computer lab. This room is equipped with hardware and software to accommodate those students who need to have voice input to the computer, in order to augment the work the students would do in an IC lab.

If you have a disability and will require adaptive technology to use Instructional Computing lab computers, please contact the Disability Resource Center right away so that they can make arrangements to assess your adaptive technology needs and coordinate services for you with the Instructional Computing staff.
