WebCT - Preparing your computer settings for WebCT

WebCT Supported Web Browsers Information

In addition to having a supported browser, you must make sure to have Javascript and cookies enabled (these are enabled by default in most modern browsers).

In order to use the WebCT html editor users will need a current version of Java:

Spyware installed on your computer can often interfere with important WebCT operations. Please view the WebCT spyware solutions.

Pop-up blockers and other software may also need configuration. There is additional information detailing what setup needs to be performed.


The following explains the different support categories various browsers fall under:

  • Validated: These browsers have been tested extensively and have been validated for use with WebCT.
  • Unsupported: These browsers are known to have significant issues in operation with WebCT and are not supported for use with WebCT.
  • Browsers not listed: Browsers not shown on this table have not been tested. They may or may not work with WebCT. It is strongly recommended that you use a Validated browser.

Notes (Mac):

  1. To see supported browsers for earlier versions of WebCT, visit the Supported Browser Versions Archive.
  2. Some versions of the Mozilla and Safari browsers, where listed, require an up-to-date Service Pack to be installed on the WebCT server. If you experience issues using these browsers, please contact your system administrator to ensure your WebCT installation has the latest Service Pack installed.
  3. Netscape 4.78 and 4.79 are not supported. Read more in the WebCT Support Knowledge Base.
  4. Netscape 6.0 and 6.1 are not supported. Read more in the WebCT Support Knowledge Base.
  5. Netscape 6.2.x may require an updated Java plug-in. Read more in the WebCT Support Knowledge Base.

Notes (Windows):

  2. Internet Explorer 7, Mozilla 1.6 & 1.7, AOL 9 browsers, where listed, may require an up-to-date Hotfix or Service Pack to be installed on the WebCT server. If you experience issues using these browsers, please contact your system administrator to ensure your WebCT installation has the latest update installed.
