The tutorials included in this module are intended to help you set up a simple, straightforward web site in as short a time as possible. On your new site you will be able to post class materials (syllabus, handouts, etc.) and links to other web sites for your students to access online.
If you decide you want to do more than this, there are other tutorials to show you how, and of course you are always welcome to contact the FITC for more help.
Students have told us (see the WebCT Student and Instructor Survey 2006):
- The most frequently mentioned use of WebCT for students is as a repository for class materials, making it convenient for them to access the syllabus, lecture notes, and reading materials for the class. Your students will appreciate it even if the only thing you use WebCT for is making class materials available for them online.
- It annoys students when they see a link to a WebCT tool that isn't being used or kept up-to-date. We recommend you delete links to tools you do not plan to use.
- Students like to print out lecture notes and take them to class to reinforce their own notetaking. You can create pdf handouts from your PowerPoint presentations for students to use.
By following the steps in this guide, you can create a course web site that students will appreciate but that won't take too much time for you to build and maintain.
