SELF-GUIDED TOUR OF
THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ WATER POLLUTION CONTROL FACILITY

Welcome to the City of Santa Cruz's Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Thank you for taking the time to come visit this modern and well operated treatment facility. It provides state-of-the-art treatment of wastewaters generated from the City of Santa Cruz and some of the outlying areas of Santa Cruz County. The wastewaters treated at this plant are currently discharged approximately 100 ft. below mean sea level in the ocean and one mile off-shore. The high level of treatment provided by this facility contributes to maintaining the high quality and environmental health of the marine environment. The addition of secondary treatment has enhanced the biological treatment of the wastewater being discharged to the ocean. Much of this additional treatment allows the treatment plant to further utilize the reclaimed water for beneficial use at the treatment facility.

This self-guided walking tour is intended to allow visitors to spend as much or as little time as they may wish touring the treatment facility. To begin the self-guided tour, enter the administration/control building of the treatment plant by going through the main entrance door located at north side of the building as shown on the attached Treatment Plant Site Plan. Stops are designated (*J on the attached Treatment Plant Site Plan shoving the location at which the various components of the treatment facility described below can be vieved. In the interest of safety, it is requested that you observe the ~No Smoking signs posted in the various locations.

The following two pages show the layout of the primary plant and a system process flow schematic.
