Evaluation Criteria

Exams (50%):

study questions will be provided prior to each exam

all exam questions will be selected from the study questions

questions will be based on lectures, text, readings & assignments

answers are expected to provide a synthesis of lectures, text, readings & assignments

Written Assignments (10%+5%):

designed as learning exercises

co-operation is strongly encouraged

plagerism is not acceptable

Research Report (written-20%):

expected to demonstrate higher level learning

must include scientific references within text that are accurately cited in "References"

evaluation will include both structure and content

Research Report (oral-10%):

designed as a constructive experience (e.g., nervousness or glibness not evaluated)

visuals should be in a high quality format

must be based on and cite scientific references

Research Report (peer review-5%):

constructive assessment of draft, using basic writing & scientific criteria

Narrative Evaluations:

narrative evaluations will provide an overall evaluation, and address each component
late assignments & reports will be noted, unless previously excused

grade level and major will be considered (i.e., expectations are greater for upper division science majors then they are for first year, non-science majors)
