ES120 - Sedimentology/Stratigraphy

Field Trip and Report Schedule

Spring 2007

Field Trips:

The field exercises will provide you with experiences in applying some of the concepts that are introduced in the lectures, within an observational and problem-solving format.  All field trips will leave from the van loading area near the campus transportation center (near TAPS) PROMPTLY at 8 am.  In most cases we will return by 5:30 pm. Be prepared to spend a full day outdoors, regardless of the weather conditions.  This means bringing rain gear and layers of clothing (many of our sites are on the beach, which can be cold, foggy, and windy, even if the weather on campus is clear), as well as water and food.

ALL reports and abstracts must be completed to pass ES120.  Note that the reports and abstracts constitute 50% of the grade for the lecture portion of ES120 (see lecture syllabus).

All reports and abstracts must be typed, double-spaced, and MUST follow the format stipulated in the handouts which will be provided in the first week of lab.  All figures, maps, and stratigraphic columns must be done in ink.  (Photocopies of drawings drafted in pencil will also be accepted.)

All reports and abstracts will be graded on the completeness of the report (includes clarity of writing, as well as grammar, and spelling), presentation of observations, and geologic interpretations. This topic will be discussed in detail in laboratory during the first week of the quarter.

Grading point totals for reports:
