Qal'a-i-Kuhna Masjid, 1541. Built by Shar Shah, this mosque represents a transition between the Lodi style mosques and the Mughal imperial mosques. Image.

Humayun's Tomb, Delhi, 1562-71. Built by Akbar for his father. It was the first of the great Mughal tombs, and was inspired by such monumental tombs such as the tomb of Uljaitu in Sultaniya. The architects, Mirak Sayid Ghiyath and Sayid Muhammad, had worked in the former Timurid city of Herat (Afghanistan). The tomb of Barbar, the first Mughal ruler, is incorporated into the enclosure in the SE corner. Nearby is the tomb of Isa Khan of 1547 (see above). Image.

Barapula Bridge, 1621. One km. east of the tomb of Khan-i-Khanan (below). Name means "Twelve Piers", noting the number of piers in the bridge. Built by Mihr Banu Agha, the chief eunuch in Jahnagir's court. Image.
